Beginning with the 2024/2025 holiday break, I wanted to do something different with my son Tajj. This was the first year we experienced living apart, after he turned eighteen and began college. With that shift in mind, I wanted to spend our time together more intentionally, somewhere we had not yet fully experienced together. A place that could offer good food, time outdoors or sightseeing, and some form of art or cultural experience, so we would leave with shared references and things to return to in conversation over time.

Last year, we took a road trip to Marfa, Texas, and ended in White Sands, New Mexico. This year, we went to New York City, trying to take in as much as we could over the course of one week. The images that follow come from that trip, along with additional documentation.
